Das Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, die neuesten Medikamente zur Therapie der kaninen Demodikose aufzuzeigen. Dazu wurde eine Literaturrecherche durchgeführt, welche die Hypothese belegen sollte, ob die neuesten Medikamente eine bessere Alternative zu den älteren Wirkstoffen aus der Nutztiermedizin sind.Mit Suchmaschinen wie PubMed und Vetmed Seeker wurden Publikationen mit den Schlagwörtern Amitraz, Makrozyklische Laktone (Avermectine und Milbemycine), und Isoxazoline (Afoxolaner, Fluralaner, Sarolaner und Lotilaner), nach Therapieprotokollen für die kanine Demodikose durchsucht. Die Literaturrecherche ergab 69 Publikationen, die sich wie folgt verteilen: Amitraz (19), Ivermectin (13), Doramectin (4), Eprinomectin (3), Moxidectin (10), Milbemycinoxim (3), Afoxolaner (5), Fluralaner (5), Sarolaner (4) und Lotilaner (3).Die Literaturrecherche konnte eine Veränderung über die letzten zwei Jahrzehnte in der Therapie der Demodikose aufzeigen. Amitraz, Ivermectin und Doramectin wurden bei zahlreichen Patienten trotz dem Risiko von schweren Nebenwirkungen eingesetzt. Ein Kombinationspräparat mit den Wirkstoffen Imidacloprid und Moxidectin, mit dem Handelsnamen Advocate®, ist eine gute Alternative zu den älteren Wirkstoffen. Es ist das am häufigsten vorkommende Präparat unter den Publikationen. Es wurde in zahlreichen Studien auf seine Sicherheit und Wirksamkeit getestet, und gehört zu den derzeit in Österreich zugelassenen Arzneimitteln zur Behandlung der kaninen Demodikose. In Vergleichsstudien konnte Advocate gute Erfolge erzielen, allerdings zeigten die Wirkstoffe der Isoxazoline im selben Zeitraum eine schnellere Milbenreduktion. Die Wirkstoffe der Isoxazoline sind als Kautabletten erhältlich und damit sicher und einfach in der Anwendung. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist die Tatsache, dass in den Studien keine klinisch relevanten Nebenwirkungen auftraten.Derzeit sind die Präparate Advocate®, NexGard®, NexGard Spectra®, Bravecto® und Simparica® zur Therapie der kaninen Demodikose in Österreich zugelassen. Diese Präparate vereinfachen die Behandlung der Demodikose, man muss jedoch die Gesamtsituation des Patienten betrachten, um einen Therapieerfolg zu erzielen. Besonders wichtig ist das Gespräch mit den Patientenbesitzern, eine vollständige Anamnese des Tieres und regelmäßige Kontrollen beim Tierarzt, um neben der klinischen auch eine parasitologische Heilung zu erreichen. Auch danach sollte der Kontakt zum Patienten bestehen bleiben, da es abhängig vom Krankheitsverlauf zu Rückfällen kommen kann.

The objective of this study was to examine the newest drugs for the therapy of the canine demodicosis. To prove the hypothesis that the latest drugs are a better alternative to the older drugs from the farm animal medicine a literature research was conducted.With search engines such as PubMed and Vetmed Seeker, publications with the keywords amitraz, macrocyclic lactones (avermectine and milbemycine), and Isoxazoline (afoxolaner, fluralaner, sarolaner and lotilaner) were searched for treatment protocols for the canine demodicosis. The literature research revealed 69 publications as follows: amitraz (19), ivermectin (13), doramectin (4), eprinomectin (3), Moxidectin (10), Milbemycin oxime (3), afoxolaner (5), fluralaner (5), sarolaner (4), lotilaner (3).The literature search revealed a change in the treatment of demodicosis over the last two decades. Amitraz, ivermectin and doramectin have been used in numerous patients despite the risk of serious side effects. A good alternative to the older drugs is a spot-on combination with the ingredients imidacloprid and moxidectin called Advocate®. In this literature research it is the most common medication and has been tested for its safety and effectiveness in numerous studies and is one of the currently approved drugs for the treatment of canine demodicosis in Austria. In comparative studies Advocate® achieved good results, but the active ingredients of the isoxazolines showed a faster mite reduction in the same period. The active ingredients of the isoxazolines are available as chewable tablets and are therefore safe and easy to use. Another advantage is the fact that no clinically relevant side effects occurred in the studies.Advocate®, NexGard®, NexGard Spectra®, Bravecto® und Simparica® are currently approved for the treatment of canine demodicosis in Austria. These preparations simplify the treatment of demodicosis, but one must consider the patient´s overall situation in order to achieve a therapeutic success. To achieve both clinical and parasitological cure, it is particularly important to talk to the patient´s owner, to take a complete medical history of the animal and to have regular checks with the vet. Contact with the patient should also be maintained afterwards, as relapses can occur depending on the course of the disease.
