Description (eng)
This file serves as supplementary material for the publication "Is there vertical social transmission of the animal-human relationship in cattle?" that was submitted to the Journal of Dairy Science. OBS calves could observe gentle interactions between a handler and their foster cow and PRES calves just experienced the presence of the handler. Each calf was treated 5 days a week for their first 3 weeks of life. At 3 weeks of age, calves were tested in avoidance distance tests and an approach test. The .pdf file contains information about the calves that were involved in the experiment, specifically on how the foster groups were composed. The file also contains information about the pens that were used for the foster groups, the scoring of treatment sessions, an ethogram for the analysis of the approach test and results from treatment sessions and approach tests. Behaviours during the reatment sessions were scored directly after the treatment sessions, approach tests were recorded on video and analysed using the software BORIS. The file also contains model outputs from statistical models.
