Man unterscheidet zwischen peroralen, intraruminalen, spot-on-, pour-on-, subkutanen oder intramuskulären Applikationsformen.
<ns1:description language="en">The aim of this diploma thesis was to determine the current status (July 2020) of approved endoparasitics in domestic mammals (horse, dog, cat, cattle, sheep, goat, pig) and poultry (chicken) in Austria. Due to a so far deficient listing, it was assumed that all endoparasites relevant in Austria can be treated with drugs authorised in this country under consideration of the “Kaskadenregelung” (cascade regulation). With the help of the medicinal register of the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety and the website of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), antiparasitic substances were systematically screened for approvals for each animal species. A total of 222 different preparations are authorised as endoparasiticides in Austria. Due to the composition of the active substance, the mechanism of action and the applications for different animal species, the 222 approved preparations can overall be listed 410 times in different tables (subdivided into active ingredients and animal species). Within the 410 areas of application, nematodicides were the dominant active ingredients with 253 listings. Most of the preparations are approved for dogs and cats (265/410), the fewest for goats (1/410). The endoparasiticides authorised in Austria allow a total of 71 different genera of endoparasites to be combatted. Most genera can be assigned to the Nematoda (55/71), followed by Cestodea (9/71), Protozoa (5/71) and Trematoda (2/71). Based on practicability the drugs are available in different forms of application. A distinction is made between peroral, intraruminal, spot-on, pour-on, subcutaneous or intramuscular forms of application. Most of the active substances must be administered perorally, whereas within this group tablets are the dominant form of preparation. Due to the lack of approved drugs for all above listed animals in Austria, reclassifications must be made in accordance with the “Kaskadenregelung” (cascade regulation). Therapeutic contingencies can therefore occur in almost every animal species, but these can usually be covered by drugs or active substances already approved for other animal species. Sheep are the only animals in which all the groups of active substances (nematodicides, trematodicides, cestodicides and antiprotozoals) have the appropriate authorisations. By contrast for goats, only one preparation is registered as an endoparasiticide. Most of the reclassifications have to be carried for this species.</ns1:description>
