<ns1:description language="en">Ostertagia ostertagi is one of the most common gastrointestinal parasites in cattle. While it may cause severe diseases in young animals, adult animals usually do not show clinical signs. However, an infection can cause production losses in adult animals. The decreasing performance can be easily measured in dairy cattle. Several studies were able to document a lower milk yield in seropositive cows. To determine the seroprevalence of O. Ostertagi in Austrian cattle, milk samples from three dairy farms (two from Tyrol, one from Lower Austria) from a total of 27 dairy cows were collected and evaluated via antibody ELISA and the ODR-value was determined. Additionally, faecal samples of these animals were examined and the EpG value (egg per gramm of faeces) of trichostrongylids was determined. Then, the correlation of Ostertagia-ODR-level and milk yield and EpG-value was calculated. The overall average ODR of the three farms was 0,677. According to Bosco et al. 2018 this ODR is clearly positive. In global comparison that is also relatively high. Regarding the ODR of the individual cows the values ranged between 0,252 and 1,099. In the coproscopic screening none or only few Trichostrgylid eggs were found. On the one hand this is attributable to the time of sample collection – on the other hand to the age of the cows. There was no correlation found between ODR and EpG regarding the individual animals. Also no statistically relevant correlation could be found between ODR and milk yield. However, the collected data gives a lead to more studies needed in this particular field. Screening a larger amount of dairy cattle could probably show a correlation of the mentioned parameters.</ns1:description>
