<ns1:description language="en">In this study, 144 molluscs (snails and slugs) from different locations in St. Margarethen in Burgenland and Trausdorf were examined for nematode larvae. The snails were collected at different locations and with precise documentation of the respective conditions such as weather, environment, and time. With help of the Natural History Museum Vienna in person of Dr. Sattmann and the gastropod-atlas gastropods were determined, digested and examined according to the working protocol according to Edler. If the results were positive, the larvae were precisely documented, photographed and preserved for further molecular biological analysis as part of another study. Based on morphological comparisons with confirmed nematode larvae some of the larvae were identified as Crenosomatidae. In order to be able to determine exactly whether it is C. striatum or C. vulpis, further molecular analysis is needed. Since there are repeatedly confirmed cases of lungworms in small animals in Burgenland, Austria, this disease is of importance and should always be used as a differential diagnosis in the case of respiratory problems.Hedgehogs are already limited in their diversity by various man-made dangers. Further isolation of the hedgehog populations could lead to an increased susceptibility. As early as 1999, Reeve and Huijser documented that more than every second hedgehog dies from illness. Lungworms represent one of the most insidious dangers for hedgehogs. A large number of hedgehogs that died in autumn can be traced back to C. striatum. Even a wet cough can be a sign of a lungworm infestation and should therefore be clarified carefully.</ns1:description>
