The owners had observed increased pruritus in multiple animals within the herd. After careful examination, Bovicola equi were found in all five horses, but not the pony. Horse owners requested an environmentally sustainable treatment plan, which consisted of (a) mechanical removal of lice by shaving and\/or combing, (b) application of 0.2 g\/horse (0.1 g\/pony) neem extract, geraniol (0.5 g\/horse, 0.25 g\/pony) and diatomaceous earth (250 g\/horse, 50 g\/pony). Clinical signs ceased 1 week after the initial treatment, no lice were found after 3 weeks, and skin lesions resolved within 6 weeks. Although there was no control group to estimate the true efficiency of the described treatment, upon follow-up, all horses remained lice-free for at least 18 months after the last treatment."}]}],"bf:provisionActivity":[{"@type":"bf:Publication","bf:agent":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"Wiley"}]}]}],"dce:rights":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"© 2025 The Author(s)"}],"dce:subject":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Neem Extract"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Natural Treatment"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Horses"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Geraniol"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Diatomaceous Earth"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Bovicola Equi"}]}],"dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Control of Bovicola equi infestation in a herd of horses using an environmentally sustainable treatment protocol"}]}],"dcterms:accessRights":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/QW5R-NG4J"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"open access"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Open Access"}]}],"dcterms:issued":["2026"],"dcterms:language":["eng"],"dcterms:type":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/69ZZ-2KGX"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Documento PDF"}]}],"ebucore:filename":["Vet Record Case Reports - 2025 - Bandelj - Control of Bovicola equi infestation in a herd of horses using an.pdf"],"ebucore:hasMimeType":["application\/pdf"],"edm:hasType":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/VKA6-9XTY"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"journal article"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Wissenschaftlicher Artikel"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Articolo scientifico"}]}],"edm:rights":["http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-nd\/4.0\/"],"oaire:version":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/PMR8-3C8D"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"version of record (published version)"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Versione editoriale\/Version of Record"}]}],"rdam:P30004":[{"@type":"ids:doi","@value":"10.1002\/vrc2.70317"}],"rdau:P60193":[{"@type":"schema:CreativeWork","bibo:issue":[{"@value":"1"}],"bibo:volume":[{"@value":"14"}],"dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Veterinary Record Case Reports"}]}],"dcterms:issued":["2026"],"ids:issn":["2052-6121"]}],"role:aut":[{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Bandelj"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Petra"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"0000-0002-2216-0473"}]},{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Peregrine"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Andrew"}]},{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/01w6qp003"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Joachim"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Anja"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"0000-0003-3082-6885"}]}],"schema:numberOfPages":["7"]}
