<ns1:description language="en">In this study the current literature (publications till June 2022) about the usage of CBD was summarized and presented. It only contains in vivo-studies. There have been found 15 studies in the previous research, five of these studies were with dogs, one with dogs and cats, one only with cats, two with rats and mice, two with cattle, one with horses und two studies with humans. Most of the studies concerned pharmacokinetic and acceptance of CBD. It was clearly shown that CBD has a very high acceptance in all species. There have been only low-graded adverse events, like hypersalivation, vomiting or diarrhoea, especially in cats. The reason of these side effects could have been because of the different fatty oils which have been used and therefore changes in the digestive tract. The half-life times were different through the species. Gamble et al. got 2018 a half-life time of around 4 hours in dogs, whereas Deabold et al. got 2019 a half-life time of 1 hour. Additionally, Deabold et al. examined in 2019 the half-life time in cats and got the outcome of 1,5 hours. Nevertheless, the half-life time in cattle is clearly higher with 14 hours in the study of Kleinhenz et al. 2020 and 10 hours in horses in the study of Williams et al. 2021. Concerning the effects there have been some positive studies against osteoarthritic pain in the studies of Philpott et al. 2017 and Gamble et al. 2018, but also about pediatric epilepsy in the study of Tzadok et al. 2016. Though, more studies must be done in different usage to integrate CBD as a possible therapy in veterinary and human medicine. Additionally, a short online survey has been conducted about the current use of CBD in animals. This survey was made of 18 questions. It has been carried out with the tool “LimeSurvey” and was spread via Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Overall, 97 people did the survey, but only 69 met the inclusion criteria and have been evaluated. The survey showed that two-thirds of the participants have used a CBD product for their dogs. Most of them applied it successfully for calming or against pain. The most used dosage form was CBD oil, which was applicated directly in the mouth or above the meal. Each 50 % of the participants used the product because of the advice from their vet respectively on their own personal responsibility. The acceptance has been valued by more than a half with “very good”. This poll has proved that CBD has during the survey time a successful usage in animals.</ns1:description>
