<ns1:description language="en">This study determined the frequency of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) in canine pyoderma and otitis externa patients over a five-year period. The years 2017, 2019 and 2021 were selected as sample years. Statistical comparison of frequencies was performed using the Chi-squared test, with significance at p < 0,05. Over all five years, the average MRSP frequency among 214 Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates was 32,2 %. It also showed a non-significant increase in MRSP frequencies from 23,8 % in 2017 to 40,7 % in 2021. Among Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates, various antibiotic resistances were present, with an increase in resistance over the sample years against oxacillin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, clindamycin and rifampicin. A significant increase in the frequency of resistance among Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates was found for erythromycin and chloramphenicol. On average, the most common antibiotic resistances in descending order were found against penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, clindamycin and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim. All MRSP as well as 35,9 % of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus pseudintermedius were multidrug resistant. The increasing number of MRSP and the frequent occurrence of multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius underscore the necessity of adapting the strategies for the treatment of patients with pyoderma and otitis externa to these new developments in antibiotic resistance.</ns1:description>
